The Tribulations of the Information Age
A Poem by Mike Doose

It’s funny how humankind has evolved
To the point where
Hunting for food isn’t even a chore
To the point where
The only dangers are manmade
To the point where
Electricity is an absolute necessity for the sustainment of life
To the point where
Time on a computer
Is a daily ritual
That practically
No one
Can deny participating in.
To the point where
Facebook and sitcoms are hobbies
To the point where
Simple hobbies become addictions
To the point where
We sometimes just want a break.
A break from it all.
All the drama.
All the One Tree Hill and the YouTube and the Fox News and the 60 fucking Minutes.

It’s a tragedy of sorts.

Generation X is our Iago.
And the time we had before is our suffocating Desdemona.
Like Othello, we have unknowingly killed a good thing.

We have distractions and unnecessary torments.

The peace and tranquility of nature before industry
Is gone.

And will never return.
